Team Hybrids Dominates at the 2007
Daytona Spring Break Nationals (March 2007)
Team
Hybrids, the official sound-off competition team of Hybrid Audio Technologies,
once again made its indelible mark on the competition scene with wins
and placements at the 2007 Daytona Spring Break Nationals, an
IASCA®
Territorial Key Event and
MECA®
Triple Point Regional Event.

The
Daytona Spring Break Nationals represents the unofficial beginning of
the 2007 sound-off competition season, and Team Hybrids USA had six
competing members, and five support staff on hand to continue Hybrid
dominance in organized sound-off competition. Among its six
members, Team Hybrids took home two firsts, a second, two thirds, and a
fourth place finish, with strong performance across the board in the
sound quality section of the judging sequence.
Rounding
out the top honors once again was Andy Jones, the 2006 Team Hybrids USA
MVP winner, and proverbial powerhouse in the MECA competition format.
Andy established himself quickly as the one to (try and) beat in the
Modex+ class, MECA's second-highest class in their SQ format with his
win over a group of exemplary sound-off veterans. Andy was the
second highest-scoring competitor at the entire event, with his audio
system that had only been playing music for three days prior to the
event. Andy also won the Jonathan Mallet Soundoff Sportsmanship
Award, a coveted prize amongst SQ competitors given in memory of SQ
competitor Jonathan Mallet.

Also in
top honors with a first place win was Rick Sellers in the Ultimate
Amateur class, who branched out from the USACi competition format to
compete in his first IASCA TKE event, and won his class with a score
that would have been competitive in any format at the event.
Despite losing points in RTO, security, and installation, and an
inability to tune his car beyond simple crossover adjustments because of
a processor malfunction, Rick's score shows precisely how strong this
vehicle is, and will continue to be in this class. When speaking
of Rick's vehicle, Bill Pleasant, Team USA coordinator commented
"nothing beats proper speaker placement and sound installation
techniques, all the while using an exceptional performing Legatia L631-3
three-way component system."
John Marsh
gave an extremely strong showing in the Pro Ultimate class, with a
tie-breaker for second place going to John because of his exceptional
tonal accuracy score, besting his rival manufacturer competition by an
astounding 12 points in this section of the score sheet which evaluates
how accurately the system reproduces the musical tones. John's
1997 Eclipse GST was located in the Hybrid Audio booth for the weekend
where it was on display for the thousands of spectators that walked
through the Ocean Center's exhibit halls. And a final testimony to
the Legatia L631-3 three-way system, John's vehicle was only one of two
to get a perfect RTO score of 40 points. Likewise, John's sound
quality scores were some of the best given at the entire event.
Fred
Harris (Amateur Street), Dave Brooks (Rookie), and Jason Pellino
(Amateur Street) rounded out the collective efforts of Team Hybrids USA
with a pair of third place finishes, and a fourth, respectively, in
their classes. Each member lost easy points in security, RTO, and
installation, but boasted significant achievements in the sound quality
portion of the judging sequence; all team placements were by virtue of
strong performance in sound quality judging.
Scott
Buwalda, Founder of Hybrid Audio Technologies, LLC stated "I am so proud
of the Team Hybrids members that participated and once again showed the
world that they are a force to be reckoned with. Each one of these
members faced adversity in the days and hours leading up to the event.
Most of these guys were still building the morning of the event.
Some hadn't slept in 36 hours. And even though easy points were
lost in other categories, one thing remained consistent: exceptional
sound quality scores across the board with the six competing members.
I am very proud of my guys!" Buwalda went on to point out that
several members of Team Hybrids are still building, and they anticipate
having a minimum of two cars in every IASCA®
class come the World Finals in September, to be co-hosted
once again with the 2007 NOPI Nationals.
